BIO:
Tony Davis, whitesmith, is a self taught artist who produces wearable works of art and sculpture hand wrought in fine metals. Tony Davis employs the age old traditional silver working methods of the early Native American and Spanish Colonial plateros. His preferred method is to melt the silver into an ingot. Each piece is expanded by hammering, bent and shaped by hand beating on an anvil, and annealed numerous times. Filing, sanding and buffing are all accomplished by hand. Tony Davis uses a variety of old tools and implements including an antique Spanish Colonial anvil, cannon balls from the Mexican Revolutionary period and old steel shoe forms to create the unique effect of his work. These laborious and time consuming traditional processes create an authentic beauty and reveal and enhance the essence of the metal that the twenty first century technology and manufacturing cannot achieve. Metals not worked by hand lack energy and power.
A native of Ft. Lauderdale, Tony Davis was a successful engineering contractor. His drive and vision is now apparent in his exciting and powerful creations. A beautiful engagement of nature and man are poured into an ingot of silver and hammered into dazzling, enthralling works of art. His joy, excitement, and creativity are imbued into every stroke and hammer mark.
