A POP Gallery first- Spanish Market Group Show featuring three prolific artists who are creating work that preserves Spanish arts & history while embracing Contemporary motif and techniques often seen in Pop Surrealism internationally but outside the traditions of Santa Fe's historic Spanish arts community and annual markets. This show may be the most important event of the 2010 Spanish Market and is already the buzz in the Juxtapoz and Hi-Fructose worlds.

"Memento Mori" ( A Latin phrase translated as "Remember you must die"), names a genre of artistic creations that vary widely from one another, but which all share the same purpose: to remind people of their own mortality and the punishment they will receive if they transgress the rules of their religion, the phrase has a tradition in art that dates back to antiquity.

Artist sneak peak:
Arizona native Daniel Martin Diaz, dark, complex scenes recall classical religious art while remaining completely modern; he has produced both stained glass for the San Antonio de Paduas church in Mexico and cover art for the new P.O.D. album and Good Charlotte album. His subtle, uncommon treatment of familiar religious iconography is at once subversive, devotional, and unique. His work is featured in museums across the world and he shows internationally with 2 specific solo shows annually in Rome & Canada. Together with his wife Paula Valencia they explore musical arts as the experimental band, Blind Divine.

Brandon Maldonado resides in Albuquerque, NM steeped in hispanic arts and culture and has been honored by the city as one of New Mexico's most promising emerging artists. His drawings and originals in oil are featured in Contemporary and Traditional Spanish Museums and he currently shows across the US and in the UK. The process of making a painting in itself is a meditation for Brandon who discriminately choose the themes of his work, making certain that each concept is ultimately something he believes is worth saying and contemplating. These are often associated with the many aspects of human experience, from life’s joys, sorrows and struggles, to the mysteries of our mortal existence.

Marie Sena hails from Santa Fe, New Mexico and currently resides in Albuquerque where she is a medical illustrator, fine artist and a professional tattoo artist, in high demand internationally. In May 2010 she travelled Spain and was a guest artist at the Barcelona Tattoo EXPO, a festival of tattoo & urban art with over 9,000 people attending from all corners of the world. Even as a child Marie Sena, along with the Sena family of artists, showcased her work at Santa Fe's Spanish Market where she has been honored numerous times. She left New Mexico after receiving a scholarship to attend Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where she received her degree in Biological and Pre-Medical Illustration and later earned a Master's Degree in Medical Illustration while completing her tattoo apprenticeship in Dallas, TX.
