Pop Modern
In today's world cultures that were considered foreign only one hundred years ago are now merely a plane ride or an email away. As these forms of cultural communication grow stronger we see the inevitable syncretism of east and west. As this globalization continues to transpire at such an overwhelming rate, it is certain to have a profound impact on the arts of this century. In my artwork I attempt to metaphorically reflect this aspect of our present age through the visual vocabulary of my paintings;
For example: I intentionally juxtapose flat decorative forms with plastic three-dimensional forms as well as tight brush work with
loose painterly strokes, which force the viewer to see both sides of the coin at once. One can also find the ever present curved line in my work. Psychologically, these curvilinear rhythms suggest the cyclical nature of life and at the same time imply a connection between all things. These ideas are not limited to the technical aspects of my work, but are also evident in the reoccurring themes of life & death, good & evil, joy & sorrow, and the antique & modern.
Original and limited edition work by Brandon Maldonado is represented exclusively in Santa Fe, NM at POP Gallery.
