| Marie Sena |
Marie Sena hails from Santa Fe, New Mexico. She left New Mexico after receiving a scholarship to attend Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. There, she received her degree in Biological and Pre-Medical Illustration and spent many hours in the basement painting studios. After graduating, Marie moved to Dallas, Texas to pursue her Master’s degree in Medical Illustration. While in Dallas, Marie began painting seriously and was a regular artist at Kettle Art Gallery in Deep Ellum. Though she always had an appreciation for the art of tattooing and was quite tattooed herself, it wasn’t until she was introduced to Chris Merchant that she seriously considered trying her hand at it. She apprenticed with Mr. Merchant for a year at Nine Eyes Studio in Deep Ellum. In the span of her apprenticeship she met tattoo artists Caleb Barnard and Tim Creed, who she considers influential to her growth as both a painter and a tattoo artist. After receiving her master’s degree in Medical Illustration and completing her tattoo apprenticeship, Marie chose to return to her homeland in Santa Fe, where she tattoos professionally, illustrates, and shows her artwork. Marie now tattoos at H&H Tattoo at 1209 Cerillos Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
