About Us:
POP Gallery established March 2007
Santa Fe, the second largest art hub in the US is continually refreshed by the emerging and established artists represented at POP Gallery. Nestled across from the historic Coyote Café on Water Street the gallery hosts an environment unique to the city with vibrant color and a European salon atmosphere thus embracing locals and tourists alike. Our goal in 2008 is to redefine the gallery experience one show at a time.
A native Santa Fean & previously with Fenn Galleries, Seret & Sons, Mountain Trails Gallery and Chuck Jones Studio Gallery of Santa Fe, New Mexico -Director Michael McDowell brings over 20 years of diverse high end fine art experience to the gallery which will serve private and corporate collections throughout the world. A native New Mexican, Sharla Throckmorton-McDowell joined POP in April 2007 having worked for the leading animation publisher Linda Jones Enterprises for the past 11 years. She served as Gallery Director along side Michael for The Chuck Jones Studio Gallery in Santa Fe for 7 years and later as Wholesale Business Development Manager.
Connected to the Santa Fe art community and with a proven history of team building and record sales Michael and Sharla were approached by LJE in 2000 to run the Chuck Jones Studio Gallery Santa Fe "as a proprietorship" and did so for over 7 years. Through their innovation, dedication & motivation to their local community and their craft, the McDowell's realized their goal of rebuilding the Santa Fe gallery making it a profitable division of LJE.
During this time we were blessed with a son, Rowan Finn, the love of our life.
Having gone their own direction and no longer with The Chuck Jones Gallery the McDowell's highly value their experience with LJE and the Jones'.We wish them continued success in their business and much joy and peace to their families.
Skip to March 2007...Well, LIFE threw us a few curve balls and late in 2006 we had some critical choices to make....start over for some one else or start something solid for our family. Having put so much energy into other's businesses with record success we believed we had a shot at making our vision work. Here we are...Again side by side, the McDowells now have an opportunity to truly run a business as though it was theirs...success and failure their own too!
With many connections in the local and international art scenes we came to personally collect POP art and undeniably recognized an untapped niche in the Santa Fe market-POP Modernism. One of the greatest things about POP's vision is being a platform for art unique to Santa Fe as well as showcasing whimsical art from up and coming artisans, often local.
Whimsical works on paper, canvas, deck, board or you name it-- are presented artfully in a lush & vibrant space unique to the city. Genres include pop modernism , illustration, animation & sculpture featuring art in numerous media. Bronze, wood & resin sculpture are offered in a modern vein.
